Microsoft 365 Copilot training: AI inside Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams

Copilot in Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams (the assistant for Microsoft 365 applications, not GitHub Copilot for coding). Your organisation already uses Microsoft 365. This one-day course teaches teams to use Copilot with their real documents, meetings and inboxes, with sound practices for confidentiality and verification.

What you'll be able to do

Write effective Copilot prompts in each Microsoft 365 application

Prepare for, follow and make use of a Teams meeting with Copilot (summary, actions, decisions)

Manage an inbox and draft text with Copilot in Outlook and Word without losing your own voice

Analyse an Excel spreadsheet and create a PowerPoint presentation from existing documents

Know what Copilot can see, what it must not see, and how to check what it produces

Programme

  1. Morning

    Understanding Copilot and setting the rules

    • What Microsoft 365 Copilot does: Copilot Chat, Copilot inside the apps, agents, Work IQ
    • What Copilot sees: Microsoft Graph, permissions, SharePoint, what stays inside the tenant
    • Company usage rules: sensitive data, verification, citing sources, accountability
    • Workshop: writing a good prompt (context, source, format, tone) using your own files
  2. Morning

    Meetings and email

    • Teams: preparing for a meeting, following it live, getting a summary, decisions and actions
    • Outlook: sorting, summarising a thread, drafting and adjusting a reply, scheduling
    • Workshop: a real week of email and a real meeting handled with Copilot
  3. Afternoon

    Documents, figures and presentations

    • Word: drafting from sources, rewriting, structuring a long document
    • Excel: understanding a spreadsheet, guided work on formulas, analyses and charts
    • PowerPoint: a presentation from a Word document or a brief
    • Workshop: producing a complete deliverable for your role with Copilot, then checking it
  4. Afternoon

    Agents and team routines

    • Copilot Chat and agents: when an agent is more useful than a conversation, the catalogue, and simple agent creation
    • The team's use cases: choosing three routines to adopt from the following week
    • Limits and pitfalls: hallucinations, stale data, confidentiality, copyright
    • Individual action plan and team usage policy

Prerequisites

Everyday use of Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. An active Microsoft 365 Copilot licence per participant (or a test tenant provided by the company).

Group size

4 to 10 people

Teaching approach

20% presentation, 80% practice on participants' own documents, email and meetings, in their own Microsoft 365 environment. Every exercise ends with a check of the result.

Assessment

Initial assessment, exercises on participants' own documents, assessment of learning at the end of the day.

Do participants need a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence? +

Yes, every participant works in their own environment. If licences are not yet rolled out, the company provides a test tenant; Colombani.ai helps scope this before the session.

Does the course cover IT-side configuration? +

No, the course is aimed at users. Deployment, permissions and data governance are consulting matters and can be scoped separately.

How does this differ from the “Working with AI agents” course? +

This course focuses on Microsoft 365 and its applications. “Working with AI agents” is independent of any particular tool and covers autonomous agents in greater depth, with Claude and ChatGPT.
